Post-surgery, there can be wound complications due to infection, complications with circulation, tissue structure, or other external factors. Similarly, wounds that have been treated with a graft or skin flaps can run into complications during the healing process. Open wounds that are near bone are particularly prone to infections (osteomyelitis). These infections can spread to nearby bones or tissues near artificial joints or metal fractures, causing a “hardware infection.”
