Wound Dehiscence

Wound Dehiscence

When surgical incisions break open along the sutures, it can lead to wound dehiscence. This is typically caused by poor or too tight sutures. Other likely causes include overactive patients or incision strains caused by coughing, vomiting or sneezing. Patients who undergo chemotherapy or have a weak immune system can also experience dehiscing. These wounds can become easily infected and cause complications to the healing process.
